The lifespan of Stan's tire sealant depends on whether it is sealed in the bottle or active inside your tire, as well as your local climate and riding habits.

Bottle Shelf Life (Unused Sealant)

• Unopened Bottles: 2 to 3 years when stored in a cool, dark place out of direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

• Opened Bottles: 1 to 2 years, provided the cap is sealed tightly after every use to prevent evaporation and latex exposure to air. Always shake the bottle vigorously before each use to redistribute the sealing crystals!

Liquid Lifespan Inside the Tire

• Stan's Original Tubeless Sealant: Lasts approximately 2 to 7 months on average.

• Stan's Race Day Sealant: Lasts approximately 2 to 3 months due to its higher concentration of sealing crystals, requiring more frequent maintenance and top-offs.

• Stan's Rolled Gold Tubeless Sealant: Lasts approximately 2 to 6 months on average.

Key Factors That Affect Lifespan

• Unseen Punctures: Every time your sealant fixes a puncture on the trail, it consumes a small amount of liquid to plug the hole. Because Stan's works so fast, you often won't even realize a puncture occurred—meaning your sealant volume gradually decreases as you ride.

• Climate & Temperature: Hot, dry environments or storing your bike in a warm garage will cause liquid sealant to evaporate faster. In hot summer months, you may need to check levels every 30 to 45 days.

• New Tires: Fresh, porous tire casings absorb a noticeable amount of liquid sealant during the initial tubeless setup. It is best practice to check your sealant level 2 to 3 weeks after installing a brand-new tire.

• Riding Frequency: Frequent riding helps keep the sealant evenly distributed throughout the casing rather than pooling in one spot.

How to Check Your Sealant Level

• The Shake Test: Remove your wheel, hold it up, and shake it near your ear. If you hear a sloshing sound, you still have active liquid sealant.

  • NOTE: With the smaller recommended dose of Rolled Gold, you may not hear much sloshing.

• The Dipstick Method: Remove the valve core, insert a thin zip-tie or cocktail straw through the valve stem down to the bottom of the tire, and pull it out like an oil dipstick to check the liquid depth.

If the sealant inside dries up completely, simply wipe out any loose debris, top off with fresh liquid sealant, and you're good to go!
